The Guimaras State College (GSC) has officially become a state university.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) elevated GSC to a university after it passed the validation conducted last February 22 to 24.

The Guimaras State University (GSU), the island province’s first full-fledged state university, will be entitled to subsidy from the national government.

It will be governed by the Board of Regents to be chaired and co-chaired by the chairman of CHED and the university president, respectively.

In 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) 11335 that converts the GCS, including its campuses, into a state university to be known as the GSU.

Republic Act 11335 was authored by Congresswoman Ma. Lucille L. Nava.

The school’s main campus is in the town of Buenavista. It has two external campuses in the towns of Jordan and San Lorenzo.IMT
