A pumpboat bound for Buenavista, Guimaras sank Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 12.
M/B Tassel was traversing the Iloilo Strait when it was struck by a strong wave at around 1:40 p.m.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the vessel’s hull was damaged by the wave caused by an Iloilo City-bound fastcraft.
“Pag-igo sang balud, may nabatian ang crew members nga nagcrack. Diri na nasudlan tubig kag nag-amat-amat lugdang ang pumpboat” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Albino Rodriguez of the PCG-Iloilo.
The boat’s four crew members were immediately rescued by the PCG-Iloilo. They were safe and unhurt.
Rodriguez said the boat was carrying, among others, sacks of rice.
The incident occurred hours after the Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) conducted by the PCG and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA-6).IMT
