To keep Guimaras Island free from a fast-spreading coronavirus, Governor Samuel T. Gumarin issued an executive order (EO) that temporarily bans the entry of tours and guests from Wuhan, China.
Gumarin directed all municipal mayors to impose the order in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Aside from Wuhan, the epicenter of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), the island province also bars those from “countries and areas without due clearance from the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ), an attached agency of the Department of Health (DOH).
“There is a need for an immediate action at the local level particulary to protect the inhabitants and the agri-eco tourism industry of Guimaras,” Gumarin said.
“While the BOQ remains on high alert and is in constant coordination with authorities from all ports of entry for stricter border surveillance, Guimaras likewise needs to have full vigilance and security in all its entry points since there are three persons under investigation (PUIs) for nCoV in Western Visayas,” he added.IMT
