The house of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in the town of Lambunao, Iloilo province was stoned by unidentified persons.

Mayor Reynor Gonzales “strongly condemned” the stone-throwing incident that occurred on Friday night, April 3.

“Akon gid ginapangabay ang pag-intyende sa mga biktima sang COVID-19 kay isa ini ka insidente nga wala ginapangayo sang bisan sin-o man,” Gonzales said in a statement.

The mayor said investigation into the incident is ongoing. He assured that those responsible for the incident will be made accountable.

“Ang local government unit (LGU) indi gid magduha-duha nga magfile sang nagakaigo nga kaso sa naghimo sang amo nga butang,” Gonzales said.

Lambunao currently has six confirmed cases of the disease caused by the new coronvirus that originated in Wuhan, China.

All the six patients belong one family. The town’s first COVID-19 patient, a 70-year-old male, died last March 29.

The deceased patient, identified as Fermonio Yee Wong, infected his wife and their three daughters and one son.

The five patients, according to the Department of Health (DOH-6), are in stable condition. They are asymptomatic (no signs and symptoms of COVID-19) and are under “strict home quarantine.”

The DOH is still determining how Wong, who had no travel history, was exposed to the virus

Gonzales said all the identified persons who have had close contact with the patients have been placed in isolation.

The LGU also implemented stricter measures in the village where the patients are residing to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

Gonzales appealed for cooperation from the public to defeat COVID-19.

“Buligan ninyo kami paagi sa pagtinir sa inyo mga balay kag pangmuyuan naton ang kadalag-an sang banwa sang Lambunao batok sa COVID-19,” he said.

The province of Iloilo, as of April 4, recorded 11 positive cases of the disease, the highest in the whole Western Visayas region. The other cases are in the towns of Guimbal (3), Miagao (1), and Barotac Nuevo (1).IMT
