Globe recorded the highest growth in its mobile business last year, with revenues of P107.5 billion compared to P104.4 billion in 2021. The exceptional performance was driven by increasing demand for mobile data services, especially among prepaid users.
Mobile data accounted for 78% of 2022’s total mobile service revenues versus 75% the previous year. As of end-December 2022, mobile data revenues posted a record P83.8 billion, or 8% higher than the P77.8 billion reported in 2021. Mobile data revenues also grew by 2% in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter.
The sustained growth in mobile data revenues was due to high data consumption as mobility returned to pre-pandemic levels and face-to-face work and school resumed.
As proof, Globe’s mobile data traffic went up to 4,658 petabytes in 2022, surpassing 3,733 petabytes reported in the previous year.
“The growth in mobile data traffic shows steady demand for reliable and high-speed mobile data services. At Globe, we remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver world-class digital services to Filipinos, so we will continue to optimize our network and deliver relevant and innovative products and services,” said Darius Delgado, Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business Head.
To bring best-in-class mobile services to its customers, Globe expanded its network coverage in 2022 with 1,702 new cell sites, 13,600 mobile sites upgraded to LTE, and 2,267 new 5G sites installed nationwide. This allowed the company to connect more consumers and businesses with reliable and high-speed internet services.
This network expansion is in line with Globe’s steadfast commitment to innovation and infrastructure under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Globe ended 2022 with a total mobile customer base of 86.7 million. It remains dedicated to delivering innovative digital services that improve the lives of Filipinos and drive the country’s digital transformation.
