Iloilo City bagged the Gold award at the Wheels for Work X Bike Lane Awards held on Sunday, Nov. 27.
The highest recognition was obtained by the city “for its exemplary contribution and initiative in the promotion of Active Transport.”
Quezon City won the silver award while Mandaue City in Cebu garnered the bronze award.
Last year, Iloilo beat the cities of Pasig and Quezon.
The Bike Lane Awards aims to “promote road safety for all road users, as well as share innovative practices to improve active transport infrastructure as an example to other LGUs.”
It was spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Health (DOH).
The awarding ceremony was part of the celebration of the National Bicycle Day.
Last Nov. 3, the Iloilo City also won the prestigious 2022 Galing Pook award for its I-Bike Program.
“By strengthening a bike-friendly metropolis, we are sustaining the momentum in pedaling towards progress being embraced by both locals and visitors,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.IMT
