A 17-year-old girl suffered burns after her costume caught fire at the town plaza of Estancia, Iloilo on Sunday afternoon, October 31.

The victim, a resident of Barangay Tabuan, suffered first-degree burns on different parts of her body.

Police Lieutenant Joebert Amado of the Estancia Municipal Police Station said the victim was a contestant of Rampa Estancia, a modeling contest initiated by the  Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP-Estancia) in line with the Youth Week celebration.

The contestant’s combustible costume caught fire when one of her assistants lighted a match to melt a glue stick.

“Ginsindihan niya ang pospuro para sa glue stick kay may itapik siya nga dugang tani nga dekorasyon sa costume sang biktima pero nagkalayo na ini sa iya ginsuksok,” said Amado.

Personnel of the Bureau of fire Protection (BFP-Estancia) immediately responded to the incident and applied first aid to the victim.

She was then brought to Malbog District Hospital in nearby Balasan town for further treatment.IMT/Photo form BFP-Estancia
