The Iloilo City Government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) will not allow vendors to sell flowers and candles on sidewalks and roads leading to cemeteries.
On Nov. 1 and 2, All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, respectively, will be observed in the country. During these days, cemeteries are often packed with Catholics visiting their departed loved ones.
PSTMO head Jeck Conlu said City Mayor Jerry P. Treǹas has ordered them to make sure that sidewalks and roads leading to cemeteries are free from vendors.
“Ang mga entrance pasulod sa mga sementaryo diri, private man ukon public, indi namon pag-allow magbutang sang structures nga mabaligya sang mga bulak and candles,” he said.
According to Conlu, the authorized areas for the selling of candles and flowers are public markets, district plazas, and the property of Don Alfonso Tan along the intersection of Iznart and Arroyo Streets in the City Proper.
He said Tan has allowed the vendors to use their property temporarily.
“Ang magabaligya outside dira dakpon naton,” Conlu warned.
The vendors will be allowed to start selling at the said areas starting Oct. 30 until Nov. 2.
“Pwede na sila ka set up sang ila kiosks on Oct. 29 sa hapon,” Conlu said.
“Pero dapat may permits na ini sila nga nakuha,” he added.
Conlu said the fees include P100 for barangay permit, P200 for special business permit and a certain amount for electricity connection (optional).
He said all these fees have official receipts and any collection without a receipt is illegal.IMT
