Incessant rains, dumped by Tropical Storm Agaton, caused flooding and landslides in the province of Iloilo on Monday, April 11.

Several houses and schools in the towns of Sara, Ajuy, Lemery, and San Dionisio were submerged in floodwaters.

Some residents of Barangay Tipacla in Ajuy climbed onto their roofs to escape the rising water.

Floodwaters also hit Eucharistic King Academy and Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College in Sara.

A bridge connecting the villages of Camambugan and Poblacion in Dingle was destroyed by flooding.

Farmlands were also damaged. Farmers lost their watermelon and rice crops.

Meanwhile, some roads were rendered impassable due to landslides, which were reported in Sara and San Enrique.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has yet to release its report on the damage caused by Agaton.

No casualties and missing persons have been reported so far.

Rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing in affected towns.

Based on PAGASA’s weather bulletin issued at 11 p.m. on Monday, Agaton was spotted at 10 p.m. with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and 60 kph gusts while slowly moving north-northwestward.IMT
