The fire that hit a lighting store in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district, Iloilo City on Monday morning, Sept. 11, left more than P1 million worth of damage.
The Iloilo City Fire Station, in a report by radio station Radyo Bandera-Iloilo, pegged the cost of damage at P1,680,000.
According to Senior Fire Officer 1 Jake Ronald Solis, arson investigator, the fire broke out at around 11:30 a.m. at the ground floor of Ashton Homes.
The blaze, which escalated to second alarm, was declared under control at 12:45 p.m. and completely extinguished at 2:18 p.m.
Solis said workers heard an explosion from one of the rooms inside the store before the fire spread. “They tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher but failed, prompting them to call the fire station.”
Further investigation on the exact cause of the blaze is ongoing.IMT
