A total of 24 houses were burned down while four others were partially damaged when a fire broke out on Monday afternoon, March 2, in Gen. Hughes, a coastal village in Iloilo City.

The blaze, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Iloilo City), started past 3 p.m. and was completely extinguished at 4:39 p.m.

Based on the initial report by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), the fire affected 30 families or 149 individuals.

Chief Inspector Melanie Habawel, city fire marshal, said they are still investigating the cause of the fire and the amount of damage it incurred on the properties.

Firefighters had difficulty in containing the fire because of narrow alleyways and strong winds.

Affected families are now staying in San Pedro National High School, City Proper.IMT
