Fast craft and RORO (roll-on, roll-off) trips between Iloilo and Bacolod City will remain suspended until May 31 this year, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA-6) announced Friday night, May 15.
The region’s maritime regulator moved the resumption of sea trips from May 18 to June 1.
In an interview over radio station Bombo Radyo-Iloilo, Jose Venancio Vero, MARINA-6 director, said next week’s resumption was opposed by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
The two chief executives sent a letter of appeal to MARINA-6. According to them, their province and city are not yet ready to reopen their ports to passenger vessels.
It has been more than two months since the operations of passenger vessels were temporarily stopped due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
