Locally-produced feeds that can be bought at a lower price compared with commercial feeds in the market are now available in Sibalom, Antique.
The Sibalom Livestock and Poultry Raisers Association (SILPRA) has turned the P7.5-million feed mill facility from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) into an income-generating project.
Elma Pena, president of the SILPRA and chairperson of the Western Visayas Regional Agri-Fishery Council (RAFC), said started milling feeds for livestock and poultry animals in Sibalom on October 31 after a successful dry run on August 26 this year.
“We are into milling of starter and grower feeds, which we are initially selling to our members,” she said in an interview.
An initial 50 bags of feeds using dried corn, produced by local farmers, as among the ingredients were produced on October 31.
“We have our own formulation for the feeds composed of rice bran, corn and the high protein concentrate (HPC) powder,” she said.
Pena said there has been a positive response from their members who were able to buy it for a cheaper price compared with the commercial feeds.
Their products are sold at P1,380 for a 50-kilo bag of grower feed while a bag of 50-kilo starter feed is sold at P1,430.
For commercial feeds, the price per bag of the 50-kilo grower feeds is at P1,490 while the starter feeds at P1,675.
Their products are available not only for their 476 members but for other interested livestock and poultry raisers in the province.
