The long wait is over.
After almost two years, Guimaras basketball fans will be treated with a face-to-face slam dunk competition on Dec. 3, 2021.
Organized by the Guimaras Players’ Center Sports Academy (GPCSA), the one-day slam dunk competition will tip off at Cabalagnan Gym in Nueva Valencia town.
According to GPCSA tournament manager Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, the in-person slam dunk competition was decided after the province has downgraded to Alert Level 2 this month.
“The event will be open to 15 Guimarasnon dunkers who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The free registration for the 15 slots will begin today, Nov. 18, on a first-come, first-serve basis by contacting Gabayoyo at 09291529201.
Spectators and fans will be allowed on the venue on a 50 percent capacity and they must follow the health and safety protocols such as wearing of face mask and social distancing.
“We want to let the public know that Guimaras is now safe to hosting sporting events like this. We will impose stricter measures for the fans to follow,” Gabayoyo explained.
It’s always a dream of Gabayoyo to promote local sports in the island province, noting that it’s high time for Guimaras to be active in sports and compete with other provinces.IMT Sports
