Efforts to mount direct flights between Iloilo, South Korea underway

Senator Franklin Drilon is aiming to increase the number of international flights to and from Iloilo.

Drilon said the mounting of more international flights would boost the city’s bid to become the country’s premiere MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibits) destination.

The Ilonggo senator was present during the presentation of the Iloilo MICE tourism marketing plan to the new and re-elected local government officials of Iloilo at the Iloilo Convention Center on July 26.

The plan was crafted by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in cooperation with Drilon’s office, Tourism Promotions Board, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority and DOT-6.

The Iloilo International Airport in the town of Cabatuan currently caters to flights to and from Hong Kong and Singapore.

Drilon believes that the airport is capable to handle more international flights.

He said efforts to have directs flights beetwen South Korea and Iloilo are underway.

The senator shared that he personally talked to South Korea’s ambassador to the Philippines about the possibility of having the direct flights.

South Korea is among Iloilo’s top source markets for foreign tourists.IMT
