President Rodrigo Duterte’s 5th State of the National Address (SONA) may feature Iloilo City’s initiatives to help its people affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) asked for documents related to the USWAG Community Kitchen and Ilonggo Pandesal.

The city government’s 240 community kitchens served almost two million free meals to less fortunate residents from March 22 to June 15.

The community kitchens were manned by 205 daycare workers, 180 supplemental feeding workers, and 447 parent leaders of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Meanwhile, bakeshops and milling companies in the city were able to produce and distribute 201,594 packs or 1.6 million pieces of pandesal.

Yesterday, July 20, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that Duterte will be “physically present” at the Batasang Pambansa on Monday next week, July 27, to deliver his 5th SONA.IMT
