The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique distributed the newly imposed Suggested Retail Prices (SRP) of basic necessities and prime commodities to major business establishments in the province.
DTI Antique Trade and Industry Development Specialist Arnel Oliveros, in a press release, said that the latest SRP was issued on February 8, 2023.
The product with the lowest percentage increase is detergent soap while the product with the highest percentage increase is the candle and the products with no price increase are salt, bottled water, vinegar and soy sauce.
Under DTI’s jurisdiction, basic necessities are goods vital to the needs of consumers for their sustenance and existence in times of any of the cases provided under Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act as amended by Section 1 of RA 10623, which include bread, canned fish, and other marine products, potable water in bottles and containers, processed milk, locally manufactured instant noodles, coffee, salt, laundry soap and detergents, candles, and such other goods as may be included under Section 4 of the Price Act.
Prime commodities are goods not considered basic necessities but are essential to the consumers in times of any of the cases provided under Republic Act 7581 as amended by Section 2 of RA 10623, which, under DTI’s jurisdiction, include flour, canned pork and beef, vinegar, patis, soy sauce, toilet soap, cement, clinker, GI sheets, hollow blocks, construction nails, batteries, electrical supplies, lightbulbs, steel wire, and such other goods as may be included under Section 4 of the Price Act;
SRPs are used as references for producers, manufacturers, traders, sellers, retailers and consumers.
Oliveros emphasized that establishments selling above SRPs will be given a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) requiring an explanation or justification of what caused the increase in price.JBG/DTI/PIA-Antique
