The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas needs additional funding to serve other students eligible for financial aid.

DSWD-6 regional information officer Atty. May Rago-Castillo said the regional office has already requested the central office for additional funds.

“We are still awaiting sang update on this,” she told reporters.

So far, the DSWD-6 has disbursed a total of P101.3 million to 36,131 qualified students during the first four Saturdays.

The amount is higher than the P91-million fund downloaded by the DSWD central office for the region.

According to Castillo, the regional office used its regular Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) fund to serve the beneficiaries last Saturday, Sept. 10.

The DSWD-6 received a total of 591,744 online applications, of which 43,820 were crossed-matched.

Of the cross-matched, around 20,000 were served, nearly 7,000 were unqualified, and some 20,000 are up for assessment and payout.IMT
