The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has set aside “more or less P200 million” for the repair of the controversial four-lane flyover in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo.
According to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the amount has been included in agency’s P822.2-billion proposed budget fo 2024.
The allocated fund was lower compared to the P250 million estimated cost given by Abinales Associates Engineers+Consultants (AAEC), the third-party consultancy firm hired by DPWH to conduct a geotechnical investigation on the “sinking” flyover.
“I would like to make the [flyover] usable at the earliest possible time. And this is what we are looking at , what rectification could be done immediately at this point in time,” said Bonoan.
The P680-million flyover has been closed to traffic since September 18 last year, just 12 days after it was opened to the public. The closure was the vertical displacement in piers 4, 5, and 6 of the structure.IMT
