The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Iloilo has yet to receive a copy of the result of the geotechnical investigation on the defective Ungka Flyover in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia town.

Board Member Rolando Distura, chairperson of the Committee on Infrastructure, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) promised to provide them the full result during a hearing last June 2.

DPWH-6 hired Abinales Associates Engineers + Consultants (AAEC) to conduct the investigation. The result was presented by the third-party consulting firm to the Infrastructure Development Committee of the Regional Development Council (RDC-6) last May 15.

According to AAEC, at least P250 million needed to repair the “sinking” four-lane flyover, which was constructed by International Builders Corp. (IBC), an Iloilo-based contractor.

Distura said he will personally contact DPWH-6 director Nerie Bueno to ask her why they have yet to submit the full result.

The controversial P680-million flyover has been closed to motorists since September 18 last year, just 12 days after it was opened to the public. The closure was due to structural defects.IMT
