The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) has opened the P315-million flyover project developed under the “Build, Build, Build” flagship program of the previous administration.
Located in Barangay Buhang, Jaro district, Iloilo City, the flyover was particularly built at the intersection of President Corazon C. Aquino Avenue or the Iloilo Circumferential Road (C-1) and Iloilo-Capiz Road (New Route).
In a news release, DPWH-6 revealed that the establishment of the Buhang flyover was undertaken by the Department along with the Iloilo City District Engineering Office with the end view of providing faster and more convenient road access for travelers from various areas of Iloilo province and Iloilo City to Roll-on Roll-Off (RoRo) port in Dumangas town.
Further, DPWH said the flyover will serve as an alternate route, easing the traffic congestion from Iloilo City to its neighboring towns and provinces such as Capiz and Aklan.
Transportation benefits aside, the project hopes to attract more business and investments, thereby boosting economic growth, efficiency, and productivity.
DPWH-6 regional director Nerie D. Bueno cited that those motorists from southern, central, and some parts of northern Iloilo, including Iloilo City, are expected to have shorter travel time going to Iloilo Coastal Road, hence, mobility of people and transport of products will be easier and less-costly in terms of gas utilization.
In the recent formal opening of the Buhang flyover to general road users, a ceremonial ribbon-cutting was led by Bueno alongside DPWH Undersecretary Roberto R. Bernardo, Assistant Secretary Eric A. Ayapana and other key officials.
The said infrastructure involves construction of five-span, 340-lineal meter long, 9.05-meter wide, two-lane, two-way flyover on bored pile foundation including approaches.
It also encompasses the provision of necessary warning signs, thermoplastic pavement markings, and street lights for the safety of motorists at night.AAL/AGP/PIA-6 with reports from DPWH-6
