The P480-million flyover project in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo is set to be completed within the fourth quarter of 2021, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6).
The construction of the four-lane, 453.70-meter long flyover started in January this year. It is the first of the four flyovers that will rise in the Metro Iloilo area.
The second flyover will be constructed at the junction of Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue and Felix Gorriceta Jr. Avenue, also in Pavia.
The P560-million Aganan Flyover is expected to be finished in the first quarter of 2022.
DPWH-6 Director Lea Delfinado, in an interview over radio station Bombo Radyo, said the Ungka II flyover is already fully funded while the Aganan flyover still needs additional funding.
The two other flyovers are in Hibao-an, Mandurriao and Buhang, Jaro in Iloilo City with an initial estimated cost of P100 million and P80 million, respectively.
Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon, who lobbied for the implementation of the projects, said the flyovers would “reduce traffic in those areas.”
“We have to move quickly to solve this traffic congestion which irks drivers, commuters and tourists. We must prevent being compared to Metro Manila and Cebu City in terms of the gravity of traffic. It will not be good for the image of the city that we have worked hard on for several years.”IMT
