The Department of Tourism (DOT-6) has advised the travelling public to be “vigilant” against “unscrupulous elements” offering tour packages on social media.
In a public advisory, the DOT-6 said it has monitored a Facebook page that victimizes tourists in guise of promoting Islas de Gigantes in the town of Carles, Iloilo province.
This, according to the agency, has a detrimental effect on the tourism industry not only in Western Visayas but also in the entire country.
The DOT-6 told those who are planning to visit the region to deal only with legitimate travel and tour operators.
“Look for signs being posted in Facebook page of tour packages being published sold,” it said.
“Check/verify with the DOT-6 the list of accredited travel and tour operators. Visit tourism.gov.ph or you may call DOT-6 at (033) 5032705 and 3350245 or email us at dotr6accreditation@gmail .com for inquiries.”
The advisory was signed by lawyer Helen J. Catalbas, DOT-6 director.IMT
