Thousands of people flocked to Iloilo Business Park (IBP) for the Float Parade of Lights, one of the highly-anticipated activities of the world-renowed Dinagyang Festival.
A number of floats adorned with colorful lights delighted the crowd inside Megaworld’s 72-hectare township in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City on Friday night, Jan. 24.
The larger-than-life floats, sponsored by groups, campanies, and corporations, “showcased the works of Ilonggo artists and collaborative efforts of the community.”
The night parade was also joined by three Banaag Festival tribes and a Tanglawan Festival tribe.
The Banaag Festival (Festival of Lights) is held every November in the town of Anilao, a fourth class municipality in the province of Iloilo.
The Tanglawan Festival, on the other hand, is held every month of September in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. It was recognized by Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest lantern parade.
The parade of lighted floats started from Diversion Road and culminated at IBP, where they were evaluated by judges according to originality, lighting effects, workmanship, and creativtiy, among other criteria.
Winners will receive cash prizes, which include P300,000 for first placer, P200,000 for second placer, and P150,000 for third placer.
The grand fireworks display capped off the activity.IMT
