The Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City was adjudged champion in the Streetdance Competition of this year’s Aliwan Fiesta, a tourism event that gathers festive traditions from different regions in the Philippines.
Represented by Tribu Parianon, Dinagyang bested 12 other festivals during the competition held in Pasay City on Saturday, July 15.
Aside from the championship title, Dinagyang also took home a trophy and a cash prize of P1.5 million.
In a statement, City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the “well-deserved” victory of Dinagyang is “a testament to the talent and hard work of the dancers, choreographers, and everyone involved in making this triumph possible.”
The “mesmerizing” performance of Tribu Parianon, according to Trenas, showcased “the true essence of our Ilonggo heritage.” “Their passion and artistry have captivated the judges and the audience alike,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Manggahan Festival was declared third placer. The contingent from the island province of Guimaras was represented by Hubon Balsahan from Sibunag town.
The Sinulog Festival of Cebu was second placer while the Halamanan Festival of Bulacan and the Sidlak Kadalag-an FEstival of Negros Occidental placed fourth and fifth, respectively.IMT
