The kick off of this year’s Dinagyang Festival was “very successful,” according to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The Opening Salvo was held at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand on Muelle Loney Street in City Proper on Friday, Jan. 13.
The ceremonial drum beating, which signified the opening of the festival, was led by Treñas. It was followed by dance performances prepared by barangay and ILOmination tribes.
“Everyone enjoyed all the presentations – very well practiced, coordinated and choreographed. Performance of everyone was superb,” said Treñas.
“Traffic was well managed and everyone was informed of the closures ahead of time. Kudos to the IFFI directors and officers for the preparations and the planning,” he added.
Dinagyang’s highlights – Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan, Dinagyang ILOmination, and Dagyang sa Barangay Tribes Competition – are scheduled on Saturday (Jan. 21) and Sunday, Jan. 22).
The 55th edition of the festival is anchored on the theme, “Iloilo Dinagyang 2023: Pasalamat kay Señor Sto. Niño.” IMT
