Activities in line with celebration of the 2022 Dinagyang Festival were trimmed down because of the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Among the canceled activities are the Dinagyang Food Festival, fluvial procession, and contact sports like basketball cup.
In a press conference, Gab Umadhay, member of the city government’s COVID-19 Team, said they decided to call off crowd-drawing activities to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.
The city will remain under the stricter Alert Level 3 until January 31.
The highlights of the festival, scheduled on January 22 to 23, will still be streamed online.
Joyce Ann Clavecillas, Iloilo Dinagyang Festivals Foundation (IFFI) executive director, said the fluvial procession on January 21 will be replaced with a Sto. Niño motorcade.
The motorcade will pass through the city’s main streets.
“We know a lot of the devotees really want to see the Sto. Niño image so amo na subong ang gina-preparahan sang team sang San Jose Parish Placer,” said Clavecillas.IMT
