Dengue cases in the province of Iloilo went up by 79 percent in the first five months of 2023 compared to the same period last year.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) logged 506 cases of dengue from January 1 to May 20 this year, higher compared to 282 cases in 2022.

The town of Barotac Nuevo registered the highest number of cases in the whole province with 39. It was followed by Estancia with 33 cases; Ajuy, 28; Calinog, 21; and Alimodian, 20.

No deaths due to the mosquito-borne disease were recorded in the January to May period.

So far, only the town of Mina has zero dengue this year.

Symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headache, pain behind eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, and rash.IMT
