Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. is in favor of candidates running for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) undergoing tests for illegal drugs.

While aspirants are not required to submit themselves to drug testing, they should take the initiative, according to Defensor.

Earlier, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. called on BSKE candidates to pass drug test results.

“Siguro sa lahat ng tatakbo we are fighting a war that is a global problem kung gusto niyo manilbihan sa bayan one of the biggest problems is illegal drugs, siguro magpa-drug test kayo,” he said.

In an interview with lawyer Dennis Ausan, Commission on Elections (COMELEC-6) director, he said a drug test is not among the requirements for those running in the elections on October 30.IMT
