Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas maintained their support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.
This, despite the decision of their political party, National Unity Party (NUP), to endorse presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM).
The two local chief executives said they have already committed to support Robredo and her running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
“I have declared support for Vice President Leni and Senator kiko right from the very start,” said Defensor.
According to the governor, their party, which is led by businessman Enrique K. Razon, respected their decision in the same manner that they respect their other members’ decision.
Meanwhile, Treñas stressed that Iloilo City is open to all presidential aspirants and other candidates in the May 9 elections.
Aside from the governor and the mayor, Iloilo Third District Congressman Lorenz “Nonoy” Defensor also vowed to continue supporting Robredo.
“We respect the decision of NUP to endorse Bongbong Marcos. I am thankful to the NUP leadership for also respecting my decision to support VRobred,” said Congressman Defensor.
Earlier, Iloilo Second District Congressman Mike Gorriceta officially declared his support for Robredo’s candidacy.IMT
