With the warring factions within the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party, where does Iloilo Third District Representative Lorenz “Nonoy” Defensor stand?
In his interview on IMT Conversations, party member Defensor refused to choose between Senator Manny Pacquiao and Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi’s factions.
“Ara ako sa mga congressmen under the PDP-Laban. Sa subong kon diin ang Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lord Allan Jay Velasco), who is also a member of the PDP-Laban, didto ako madampig, didto ang direction namon…the relationship I have with Congress unungan ko anay,” he said.
“If ever there will be changes. Kon indi mag-intindihanay ang PDP-Laban internally, I will always consult Governor (Arthur) ‘Toto’ Defensor (Jr.) kon ano ang amon direksyon pag-abot sa amon panghimanwa sa Iloilo,” he further said.
It’s important, according to Defensor, that he and the governor, his older brother, to have a common stand for better public service delivery.
“A big part of my election in 2022 depends so much on Governor Toto Defensor,” the younger Defensor said.
“Simple katam-an ang amon pulitika, 99 percent of the time we agree on everything. Mas maayo nga may isa lang kita ka direksyon,” he added.
Earlier this month, the faction of Cusi endorsed the tandem of Senator Bong Go and President Rodrigo Duterte for the 2022 national elections.
Prior to this, the faction removed Pacquiao as president of the political party. The senator is among the possible presidential candidates for next year’s polls.IMT
