The province will work with the new Iloilo Police Provincial Office head to boost the campaign against illegal drugs, among others, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said.

Defensor said he chose Col. Roland Alonzo Vilela to replace Col. Marlon Tayaba as IPPO director.

He said he has sent this decision to the Philippine National Police Aug. 5.

Now that Vilela was chosen to replace Tayaba, Defensor already expressed his plans in working with the provincial police.

Tayaba has served as IPPO chief for more than two years and is slated to become Western Visayas Police Regional Office’s chief directorial staff. 

“We will forward the number one agenda of the administration which is the campaign against illegal drugs,” he said.

Based on the PRO-6 data from December 5 to July 11, Iloilo has conducted 178 anti-illegal drugs operations, arrested 235 drug personalities, and filed 261 drug-related cases.

Aside from the campaign against drugs, Defensor expressed hopes to campaign for the peace and order of the province.

Iloilo now awaits the accreditation of sectoral representatives from non-government organizations to finally constitute the peace and order council, he said.

“I will explore ways to maximize our relations with the police on how we will curb illegal fishing, especially in the fifth district,” he
