Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. cited road concreting projects as among the most significant contributions of the administration of the late former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to the development of Iloilo province.
In his press conference on Thursday, June 24, Defensor said the aggressive concreting of national highways was launched at the beginning of Aquino’s term in 2010.
“It was a very good initiative because ang target niya that at the end of his term or 2016, dapat paved na ang tanan naton nga national highways,” he told reporters.
Defensor was congressman of the province’s Thirs District when Aquino was serving as president.
“When I started as congressman in 2010, kalaba-laba pagid sang national highways naton, especially ang mga secondary national highways, nga wala masimento,” the governor said.
“By 2016, nag 100 percent kita. So amo na gid ang ginbilin sa aton sang anay president Noynoy Aquino. Of course may iban, pero kon ako lang pamangkuton, amo na ang isa sa pinakaimportante nga ginbilin niya sa aton,” he further said.
Aquino passed away early Thursday morning at the age of 61 due to “to renal disease secondary to diabetes.”
“We would like to express our condolences and sympathies to the family of former president Noynoy Aquino,” said Defensor.IMT
