The Iloilo Provincial Government is having its own version of the Dinagyang Festival merrymaking with “Dagyang sa Kapitolyo” from January 20 to 26, 2020.
Revelers will be treated to a fun-filled festival of art, music, food and culture at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.
There will be a launching of trade exhibits featuring local products at the Casa Real de Iloilo covered walkway on January 20. In the evening, there will be an opening of the Dinagyang lights at the Capitol lobby.
Starting January 23, locals and guests can chill at the coffee shops and bars in Casa Real while jamming to local bands featuring Ilonggo artists.
Those who prefer to have their bodies inked can enjoy the sketching/tattoo painting at the lobby.
Art enthusiasts can visit the Grand Ballroom for the viewing and sale of paintings by local artists.
The merrymaking activities will be held at the Capitol Grounds. There will be a Zumba activity in the afternoon and an encore performance from Capitol employees who participated in the “Dance of the Decade” contest last Christmas.
The “sadsad” or street dancing activity will start at 7 p.m. at the Capitol grounds.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Suzette Mamon stressed that gate entrance is free.
“Dagyang sa Kapitolyo is open for everybody. We see to it that if they visit the Capitol, there are activities prepared for them,” she said.
The 2020 Iloilo Dinagyang Festival is themed, “Perfect Vision: Celebrating the Ilonggo Spirit in Honor of Senior Santo Niño.”
Its highlight is the Ati Tribe Competition on January 26. It is where tribes clad in colorful costumes depict the folklore of the Barter of Panay and honor the Santo Niño. Louine Hope Conserva/Capitol news
