Around 150 farmers, fishers and animal raisers from five municipalities in Guimaras province attended the Agricultural Information Caravan and Technology Forum organized by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas on Sept. 27.

Guimaras provincial agriculturist Ronnie Morante thanked the DA and its line agencies for bringing agricultural information for the farmers and fishers of the province.

He stated that the provincial government of Guimaras counterparts with DA in funding this project to ensure that all information including matured technologies from the national agencies will be disseminated to the farmers.

“This is one way nga mapahibalo sa inyo ang bulig nga ginahimo sang gobyerno para sa mga mangunguma kag subong man sa gusto nyo ipalab-ot sa sini nga mga ahensya,” said PA Morante.

Representatives from the DA banner programs, Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC), Research and Engineering Divisions, with DA’s partner agencies : Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), National Food Authority (NFA) and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) discoursed on the various services, projects and interventions they offer to the farming communities.

Meanwhile, Regional Information Officer James Earl encouraged farmers to attentively listen to the resource persons especially for the topic on controlling rat infestation, which is one of the concerns of Guimaras farmers that causes damage to their crops.

Farmers have availed some rodenticides such as storm, racumin and zinc phospide from DA-RCPC, which they can use as baits to control rodents in their farms.

Likewise, farmers who actively participated in the open forum received various information, education materials on the different commodity production guides, promotional materials such as flashlight, umbrella, hat, long-sleeved shirts from DA-Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS).
