The number of crime incidents that occurred in the province of Iloilo increased by 39.62% from January to July this year compared the same period a year ago.

In the first seven months of 2019, a total of 3,852 incidents were recorded in the province, data from the PNP’s Enhanced E-Blotter or the Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS) showed.

The figure was higher compared to 2,759 cases registered in the same period last year.

The province’s average monthly crime rate (AMCR) went up by 38.62% from 19.49% last year to 27% this year.

“This happened because some traffic incidents were previously not encoded to the CIRAS but during validation, it was found out that some of which have crime elements. In order to generate a more accurate and reliable information, all traffic incidents are already encoded in 2019,” the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) said in press release.

In the Jan.-Jul. period this year, 1,926 traffic incidents were recorded, higher by 92.41% compared to 2018’s 1,001 incidents.

To address the rising traffic incidents in province, the IPPO implemented OPLAN: Hilway “DALAN.”

In terms of the Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) (CCE) rate, the province posted an 11-percent decrease to 75.6% during the same period this year.

The province’s Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) rate declined by 9.22% from 76.33% in January to July last year to 69.29% in the same period in 2019.

The PNP, in a report by Rappler, said ” ‘cleared’ means a case has been filed in court, there has been at least one suspect identified, but none have been captured yet.”

“Solved”, meanwhile, “means a case has been filed in court, and that at least one suspect has been arrested. When a case is counted as solved, it is also already counted as cleared by the PNP.”

The number of operations initiated by various police stations in the province against loose firearms (RA 10591), illegal fishing (RA 10654), illegal drugs (RA 9165), and illegal gambling (9287) increased by 13.43% from 268 in 2018 to 304 this year.IMT
