The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has reported a significant drop in the number of crime incidents amid the implementation of strict measures against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19.)
The entire city has been placed under enhanced community quarantine or lockdown to contain the spread of the dreaded disease.
Based on data from ICPO, the total crime volume in the city went down by 61.66 percent from 226 incidents on March 21-30, 2019 to 91 incidents in the same period this year.
The incidence rate of eight focus crimes in the city went down by 77.78 percent. From 27 incidents last last year, ICPO recorded only 6 cases of physical injury (4) and theft (2) this year.
The eight focus crimes include homicide, murder, rape, physical injury, theft, robbery, carnapping and stealing of motorcycles.
The number of non-index crimes or violation of special laws also went down by 60 percent.
Road crashes in the city declined by 91.48 percent from 176 to only 15.
The enhanced community quarantine took effect on March 21 and will end on April 24, 2020. It restricted the movement of people in the city.IMT
