Crime incidents in Western Visayas went down by 12.74 percent in the first quarter of the year as compared to the same period in 2021.
The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) logged 623 cases of the eight focus crimes from January to March this year, lower than last year’s 714 cases.
All provinces and cities in the region, except for Capiz and Bacolod, recorded lower cases of the focus crimes, which include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping – motor vehicle, and carnapping – motorcycle.
Negros Occidental accounted for 145 cases of the crimes this year, lower compared to 161 cases recorded a year ago.
It was followed by Iloilo province with 134 cases from 152 cases, Capiz with 84 from 70, Iloilo City with 81 from 130, Bacolod City with 71 from 70, Antique with 41 to 48; and Guimaras with 20 from 23.
All in all, the PRO-6 recorded 5,151 crime incidents in the region in the first three months of 2022, 1.43 percent lower compared to 5,226 cases in the same period last year.
Police Brigadier General Flynn E Dongbo, PRO-6 director, thanked all stakeholders and PNP unit commanders and their personnel across the region for the collective effort in keeping the region peaceful and orderly.
“These gains were achieved because of your cooperation and effort in implementing the peace and order programs of the PNP in collaboration and coordination with the supportive community, local government units (LGUs) and other government agencies,” he said.IMT
