From P1,800, the COVID-19 reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test now costs P800 in Iloilo City.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed an ordinance lowering the RT-PCR test price at the Uswag Molecular Laboratory.

“The lowering of prices is in line with our aim to provide affordable government services to our people when COVID-19 pandemic seems far from over,” the amended ordinance stated.

This was the second time that the City Council approved the rate reduction for the RT-PCR test. Last September, the cost was brought down to P1,800 from 2,500.

The City Council noted that most of the businesses operating in the city require their workers and applicants to undergo RT-PCR testing.

“Prospective employees may be discouraged to undergo RT-PCR testing because the price is high, especially for someone who is not yet earning and only about to earn from the intended employment.”

Moreover, the ordinance provides that “laboratory fee exemption and conditions of the same Tax Ordinance to include residents of Iloilo City needing RT-PCR testing for employment purposes and examinees, examiners, proctors, facilitators, and other similar staff for the purpose of conducting board examinations and bar examinations within the city.”IMT
