A hundred test kits for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are expected to arrive in Iloilo City today, March 20.

The kits, according to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, were donated by a group from Manila.

“[They] are not even Ilonggos. They saw my call in social media,” he said.

Treñas said the Department of Health (DOH) is now facilitating the accreditation of medical technologists and centers in Iloilo to read the tests.

“Thank you for hearing my plea to make testing faster here in Western Visayas,” the mayor said.

The city currently has 16 patients under investigation (PUIs) and 1,097 persons under monitoring (PUMs) for COVID-19.

Yesterday, March 19, Treñas issued a statement saying that “all with sore throats, colds, flu like symptoms should be presumed as COVID-19 positive.”

“Please let everyone know especially those who are covered as essential businesses. Once you have more severe symptoms, then that will be the time you seek medical assistance,” he said.IMT
