The number of children who died of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has reached 16 as of August 23.
The figure, according to the Department of Health (DOH-6), includes five infants aged less than one-year-old.
Of the 10,793 active COVID-19 cases in the region (as of Aug. 20), six percent or 628 are children aged below ten years old, according to Dr. Daphynie Teorima, DOH-6 spokesperson.
At present, the country’s COVID-19 vaccine candidates with emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are only for 18 years old and above.
Teorima also noted that most of the COVID-19 patients who are still not recovered belong to the 21-30 age group, with 2,196.
There are 2,058 active cases among seniors aged above 60 years old.
Active cases in the 51-60 and 31-40 age groups are at 2,058 and 1,393, respectivley.IMT
