A pregnant woman from the town of Janiuay in Iloilo province contracted the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to Mayor Ben Margarico, the 33-year-old patient is 18 weeks pregnant and is currently staying in the town’s quarantine facility.
“Sa hospital tani namon sya dar-on nga dedicated sa mga nagpositive sa COVID-19, pero kay asymptomatic man sya, gindara ta nalang sa facility,” he said.
“Pero ginamonitor gid sya sang aton Municipal Health Unit kag waay pa ni sya kacontact sa pamilya nya or kon sin-o man nga aton residente,” he added.
The woman was among the repatriated overseas Filipino worker (OFWs) who arrived in Iloilo on May 28 from Manila.
All repatriates are required to submit themselves to RT-PCR testing upon their arrival in Iloilo. While waiting for test results, they must stay in designated quarantine facilities.
Those who tested negative for the disease will be allowed to go home.
The coronavirus-positive woman, who spent eight days at a hotel in Manila from May 19-27, tested negative during her first swab test.
The result of her second test was announced by the Department of Health (DOH-6) on Wednesday, June 3.
The DOH-6 also confirmed the positive test result of an OFW from Bacolod City.
The 38-year-old man is asymptomatic, according to Dr. Jessie Glenn Alonsabe, DOH-6 spokesperson.
The two new COVID-19 patients brought the total count in the region to 117, including 84 recoveries amd 10 deaths. IMT
