The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths in Western Visayas has reached more than 100.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported six new fatalities on Thursday, Sept. 10, the highest single-day increase in the region’s death count.
The six deceased patients, based on Regional Case Bulletin No. 167, are from Negros Occidental (5) and Capiz (1).
These brought the region’s COVID-19 death toll to 101.
Bacolod City accounted for the highest number of deaths at 30; followed by Iloilo City, 28; Iloilo province, 18 (including 1 locally stranded individual) ; Negros Occidental, 17 (including 1 LSI); Capiz, 7; and Aklan, 1.
The provinces of Antique and Guimaras have not recorded a single death.
The DOH-6 also logged 253 new COVID-19 cases in the region, raising the total case tally to 6,884.
One hundred six of the latest infections are from Bacolod City, 53 from Negros Occidental, 45 from Iloilo City, 25 from Iloilo province; 20 from Capiz; 2 from Aklan; and 1 each from Antique and Guimaras.
The number of recoveries likewise increased to 3,589 with 65 new survivors.IMT
