The number of people who succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas is now more than 660.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported four new fatalities on Wednesday, Jan. 6, raising the region’s COVID-19 death toll to 662.
Of the total deaths, 178 were from Bacolod City, 162 from Negros Occidental, 149 from Iloilo City, 103 from Iloilo province, 50 from Capiz, 15 from Aklan, 4 from Guimaras, and 1 from Antique.
On the other hand, the number of COVID-19 recoveries in the region stood at 20,326.
Bacolod City registered the highest number of recoveries with 5,369, followed by Negros Occidental, 5,961; Iloilo City, 4,413; Iloilo province, 2,751; Capiz, 1,134; Aklan, 365; Guimaras, 240; and Antique, 83.
All in all, Western Visayas logged 21,783 confirmed cases of the dreaded disease since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, of which 799 are active cases.
The entire region is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the lowest form lockdown imposed by the government.IMT
