Western Visayas has recorded two new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total number of cases in the region to four.
The Department of Health (DOH-6), in a press conference on Tuesday, March 24, confirmed that patients in the province of Capiz and Iloilo City tested positive for the disease.
The third COVID-19 patient is a 61-year-old woman from Iloilo City. She had a history of travel to Manila.
The patient, who exhibited “fever, cough, body malaise, and diarrhea,” is currently confined at the Medical City Iloilo (TMCI).
In an advisory, Dr. Felix Ray Villa, TMCI chief executive officer (CEO), said the woman “is no way related to or has had any contact with our first COVID-19 patient.”
The hospital’s first positive patient is from Guimbal town, Iloilo province.
The fourth patient, on the other hand, is from Jamindan town in Capiz. A 45-year-old man, who manifested cough and fever, also had a travel history to Manila.
“The patient is known diabetic and is on maintenance medications,” the DOH-6 said.
From Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, the patient will be brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City “for advance and appropriate medical management.”
Governor Esteban Evan Contreras assured Capizenos that the provincial government is doing “all of their capabilities to contain and manage the threats of this dreaded pandemic in our province.”
“We continue to appeal to our partners, stakeholders, fellow leaders, and the general public to unceasingly support our local initiatives in our fight against COVID-19,” he said.
The first two positive cases in Western Visayas were reported in Bacolod City and Iloilo province.IMT
