The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas is approaching the 35,000-mark as the Department of Health (DOH-6) reported 324 new infections on Wednesday, April 28.
The additional cases pushed the region’s total case count to 34,838, of which 29,545 have recovered, 878 have died and 4,409 are considered active.
Negros Occidental accounted for the most number of active COVID-19 cases in the region at 2,127, followed by Bacolod City with 812; Iloilo province, 421; Antique, 404; Iloilo City 267; Capiz, 190; Aklan, 180; and Guimaras, 8.
Majority or 64.17 percent of the total cases in the region were asymptomatic or those that did not manifest any symptom of the disease.
Thirty-two percent experienced mild symptoms, 1.18 percent manifested mild symptoms, 2.27 percent suffered severe symptoms, and 0.09 percent of the infected patients were in critical condition.
The DOH-6 said the entire region, which is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), remains a low-risk area for COVID-19.
According to DOH-6 spokesperson Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, only Bacolod City is classified as “high-risk”.IMT
