The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas is nearing the 8,000 mark.

The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported 216 new infections in the region on Tuesday, Sept. 15, raising the total case count to 7,955.

Ninety of the additional cases are from Bacolod City, 80 from Negros Occidental, 21 from Iloilo City, 14 from Aklan, 9 from Iloilo province, and 2 from Capiz.

The DOH-6 also recorded four 4 new deaths and 136 new recoveries.

The latest fatalities are from Negros Occidental Occidental (3), and Iloilo province (1).

Meanwhile, the newly recovered patients are from Bacolod City (83), Iloilo province (23), Iloilo City (22), Negros Occidental (5) and Guimaras (4).

Bacolod City remained having the most number of COVID-19 cases in the region with 2,481, followed by Iloilo City, 1,493; Negros Occidental, 1,286; Iloilo province, 633; Capiz, 203; Guimaras, 56; Aklan 37; and Antique 35.

The region registered 1,727 cases involving locally stranded individuals (LSIs), returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and authorized persons outside of residence (APORs).IMT
