The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases is Western Visayas is nearing the 1000 mark.

The Department of Health (DOH-6) recorded on Thursday, July 23, 37 new cases of the disease, bringing the region’s total infection count to 894.

Of the latest COVID-19 patients, 22 are from Negros Occidental, 9 from Iloilo province, 3 from Iloilo City, 2 from Bacolod City, and 1 from Antique.

Six of the additional cases are considered indigenous and the rest involved returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

The new indigenous or local cases are the following:

▪40-year-old male from Pototan, Iloilo province
▪50-year-old female from Molo, Iloilo City
▪24-year-old male from City Proper, Iloilo City
▪36-year-old female from Jaro, Iloilo Coty
▪21-year-old female from Bacolod City
▪32-year-old male from Bacolod City

The DOH-6 also recorded 27 new patients who recovered from COVID-19.

The death toll, meanwhile, remains at 16.IMT
