The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas has breached the 3,000 mark.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) reported 93 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Aug. 19, bringing the region’s total infection count to 3,074.
Majority of the latest cases are from Bacolod City at 52, followed by Negros Occidental (17), Iloilo province (12), Iloilo City (9), Antique (2), and Capiz (1).
Ninety-one of the additional infections are indigenous or local while the remaining two involved a locally stranded individual (LSI) and an authorized person outside residence (APOR).
The DOH-6 also reported 117 new recoveries and four new deaths.
Bacolod City accounted for 100 of the newly recovered patients. The city of Iloilo logged 7 survivors, followed by Iloilo province (5) Aklan (3), Antique (1), and Capiz (1).
Meanwhile, the latest fatalities are from Iloilo City (2), Negros Occidental (1) and Bacolod City (1).
Overall, the region has 1,390 recoveries, and 46 deaths. Its active cases are pegged at 1,638.IMT
