The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas has ballooned to more than 9,000.
An additional 240 infections were reported by the Department of Health (DOH-6) on Saturday, Sept. 19, pushing the region’s total case count to 9,044.
Of the new cases, 95 are from Bacolod City, 51 from Iloilo City, 49 from Negros Occidental, 16 from Aklan, 15 from Capiz, 13 from Iloilo province, and 1 from Guimaras.
Bacolod City remains to have to most number of infected persons in the whole region with 2,833 indigenous or local cases; followed by Iloilo City, 1,776; Negros Occidental, 1,566; Iloilo province, 682; Capiz, 227; Guimaras, 59; Aklan, 53; and Antique, 35.
The DOH-6 also logged 205 new recoveries and 10 new deaths, bringing their totals to 5,326 and 148, respectively.
Majority or 155 of the newly recovered patients are from Bacolod City, 42 from Iloilo province, 6 from Capiz, and 1 each from Antique and Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, the new COVID-19 fatalities involved 6 patients from Bacolod City and 4 from Negros Occidental.IMT
